The 75% Attendance Rule: All You Need to Know
For almost every college student in India, the "75% attendance rule" is a source of constant stress. But what does it really mean, and how can you manage it without missing out on fun? This guide explains everything.
What is the 75% Rule?
Most universities and colleges in India have a policy that requires students to attend at least 75% of the total classes held in a semester for each subject. If your attendance falls below this mark, the college has the right to "debar" you, meaning you might not be allowed to sit for the final exams.
How to Calculate Your Attendance Percentage?
The formula is very simple:
(Classes You Attended / Total Classes Held) × 100
For example, if 40 classes have been held and you attended 35, your attendance is (35 / 40) * 100 = 87.5%. You are in the safe zone!
"Am I in the Safe Zone?"
This is the main question students ask. What if you've missed a few classes? Can you afford to miss the next one? Or, if your attendance is low, how many classes do you need to attend consecutively to get back to 75%? Calculating this manually can be tricky.
